Dear readers

From Sep-21st to 23rd we had a chance to promote our Itoigawa activities at the Travel Mart 2017, which is every year organized by JNTO (Japan National Tourism Organization) at the Big Sight exhibition centre in Tokyo. It was a very large scale travel promotion event where about 450 travel agents (Buyers) from overseas and about 500 Sellers (like us in Itoigawa) had a chance to meet. We met 26 travel agents from Switzerland, Germany, France, Holland, Spain, Canada and the USA for a promotion of our tour programs that we offer in the Itoigawa UNESCO Global GeoPark. They were interested in our unique destination and we can expect more foreign tourists to visit Itoigawa next year.

The attached photo shows (from left to right) travel agent Thomas Koehler from Switzerland who has been walking through Japan in 2011 and sends tourists to Itoigawa since 2010, JNTO head Mr Matsuyama who is also aware of our activities in Itoigawa, and Rolf Muller.

We are looking forward to guide more tourists to the beautiful Hayakawa Valley and to meet the people who live there!

KOTOBUKI Greetings,
Rolf Muller

As Rolf Muller already wrote in a previous article, he works with his business partners on a six month Washoku Program. This program includes cooking classes in Tokyo as well as field trips to Uji in Kyoto and Itoigawa with several interesting seasonal activities. The program offers an opportunity to dwell deeper into the unique Japanese food culture.

I have the chance to support them by creating the Washoku Program’s website. I enjoy this work, because I appreciate the program and the collaboration with Rolf Muller is really pleasant. I can bring in some own ideas too. However creating a new website is challenging, because I do not have a lot of experience. I am grateful that Rolf Muller has confidence in me. I hope it turns out great very soon!
